Changing Minds – World Wide Whispers
10 November – 2 January 2022
Five original small quilts started the ‘Changing Minds around the World’ project. A total of forty quilters from forty countries around the world took part, showing how a photograph or memory shared with one person will change when it is passed on another person, and then change again when it is passed on again. The original photograph used was of the small country church in the village of Mouswald near Dumfries. Once the first quilt was complete, a photograph of the quilt only was passed on to the next quilter who took inspiration from the photograph of the work and then made her own and so on it went around the forty worldwide countries. Each quilter has only seen the quilt before the one she has made. No one sees the entire project until quilt number 40 from Korea has been received.
World Wide Whispers was set up in 2017 by four international quilting friends. For the first project twelve quilters from 5 countries created work starting with one image from each country. The resulting collection and exhibitions were a great success, leading to the last exhibition you can see today.
