“Lost at the Stormy Sea” by Mari Ohenoja-Miettinen Finland
In Eli’s photo I saw a stormy sea through a round cabin window. My work shows the said stormy sea (with the storm at sea blocks included). The stormy sea with high waves portrays a situation where a person with Alzheimer’s dementia finds his/her surroundings strange and threatening. The world has tilted and become unfamiliar (the picture in the quilt is also slightly tilted). The small sailboat is an allegory for the person with Alzheimer’s dementia. He/she has drifted off course from the safe sea currents and is headed into the deeps. The dolphins in the bottom of the sea represent the person’s deep memories of childhood and past life.
