Let’s Go Culture in Westmorland & Furness – Helping businesses maximise world-class cultural assets.

Farfield Mill is a cultural partner with Cumbria Tourism, which is the Destination Management Organisation for Cumbria.
Cumbria Tourism is delivering a high-profile marketing and promotional campaign to showcase world-class cultural attractions in Westmorland and Furness, thanks to support from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The campaign will run through to February 2026 and aims to increase visitor numbers and engagement, raising the profile of Westmorland and Furness as an outstanding cultural destination and helping to kickstart year-round tourism.

Community iPad

Thanks to a generous grant from the Cumbria Community Foundation, Farfield Mill has been able to purchase two iPads for community use.

Thrive with Arts, Heritage and Culture Fund – Support for Local Arts, Cultural and Heritage Organisations

The aim of the fund was to help empower arts, cultural and heritage organisations, through funding and support, in the delivery of projects that actively contribute to supporting a diverse cultural and heritage offer within their local community and a better quality of life across Westmorland and Furness.
At Farfield Mill we used our funding to provide free drop-in workshops over the winter months so our visitors could access different craft and art experiences with out the barrier of cost. We also provided cultural self-led activities for visitors to take part in which are assessable online as well as in our venue.

We have been supported by the Cultural Recovery Fund so we can be #HereForCulture and can weather the storm of Coronavirus.

When the pandemic hit us all on March the Mill fell silent with just the sound of the river and the birds rather than the bustle of visitors and noisy weaving looms.

We are a Community Benefit Society with all our funding coming from income generating activities in the Mill. The sunny months of April, May, and June should have been some of our busiest months building our financial resilience for the colder quieter months of winter.

Exhibitions have been rescheduled, workshops have been postponed and our community of resident artists who were working from home have returned.

In these very uncertain times, the grants we have received have helped us invest in online exhibitions and sales, make improvements to make us Covid safe and give us hope for the future.

Farfield Mill Community Benefit Society

On 30 November 2018 Farfield Mill Community share offer closed. We had raised nearly a quarter of a million pounds from private investors matched with £100,000 of public funds from Power to Change.

We were simply astounded, and it couldn’t have happened without the fantastic support of our Farfield Community.

Using these funds Farfield Mill Ltd will implement the business plan to ensure the Mill has a secure future.
