‘Wouldn’t it be wonderful if I could make my own beautiful yarns in the fibres, colours and textures that I wanted?’ was her thinking. So began her woolly journey…
Using older, handcrafted wheels connects Denise to generations of spinners past, and the manipulation of fibres keeps her grounded in the present. Weaving seemed a natural progression. Using both her own yarns, and those from the textile industry, she plays with colour and pattern.
Denise loves working with the natural fibres of wools and silk for their insulation and durable qualities. Materials and equipment are sourced from individuals and small family businesses from within the UK. She tries to keep wastage to a minimum and seeks to use every scrap of fabric produced. Foot and hand power frees Denise from a power source so she can be creative whenever and wherever she wishes.
