Sue Turnbull – Queen Street Colour
My idea for this tapestry came from my photograph of a collection of colourful pirns (wooden rods that hold the weft and sit in a weaving shuttle). The collection is at Queen Street Mill in Burnley, an historic steam-powered weaving mill, the last surviving in the world and now a museum. It is well worth a visit.
My style for weaving this piece is a departure from my usual tapestry weaving style, as I do not typically weave ‘block colours’, but having played with my original photograph in Photoshop this image became the cartoon for my weaving.
