Jane Walkley – Rhythm of the Weave III
Jane Walkley, a Leeds-based artist, creates site-specific sculptures using traditional tapestry, mould making, and casting. Her work explores the relationship between people and industrial heritage, highlighting the emotional and physical connections that bind communities to their past, and themes of memory, loss, and regeneration.
Rhythm of the Weave III features 1,708 cogs, which Jane has cast directly from the Hattersley Looms at Sunny Bank Mills, Farsley. Each cog is flecked with mill debris, mixed during casting, and physically links the artwork back to the mill. The tapestry’s topography mirrors the mill workers’ repetitive daily experience.
