Stuart Wilkie is an artist and printmaker based at Farfield Mill in Sedbergh, where he has maintained an open studio since December 2020. He has a longstanding passion for relief printmaking, working primarily with lino and wood engraving. Inspired by the natural world, Stuart creates intricate small-scale wood engravings by carving end-grain boxwood or lemonwood blocks, while lino allows him to produce larger and bolder compositions.
His studio is open to visitors from Wednesday to Sunday, offering an opportunity for anyone exploring Farfield Mill to see his work firsthand. Stuart is always happy to discuss his artistic process and techniques, and visitors can often watch printing in action on his remarkable 1868 Albion Press.
