Shipibo Tapestry

I fell in love with the indicated designs from the Shipibo pottery one summer when I visited the museum of America in Madrid. The labyrinth-like design made me think of the classical Mediterranean designs, so far away and at the same time so similar. The Shipibo-Conibo are an Indigenous people along the Ucayali River in the Amazon rainforest in Peru. Formerly two groups, the Shipibo and the Conibo, they eventually became one distinct tribe through intermarriage and communal ritual and are currently known as the ShipiboConibo people. Shipibo patterns are believed to heal physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual ailments, with each design carrying its own meaning.
