Naoko Watson – Verve – Source of Vitality for U

What comes to mind from VERVE is vitality and positivity. It is something I aim for and motivated to work hard towards. For me, I achieve this feeling when completing a tapestry piece, which keeps me motivated during many hours of weaving. This feeling is like being under a calm sunlight. This tapestry shows what vitality feels to me and hope to share with you.

I created two tapestry coming together to enjoy the difference in texture. The outer frame used extremely thin warp thread and although the design was simple I focused on the shape. I used two wasp threads to make the flowers and clouds stand out a bit.

For tapestry in the centre, I used standard sized wrap threads taking advantage of the different thickness and the elasticity of the weft thread and used 1 – 2 warp threads to create volume to give a 3D effect. After adding filling the two tapestries were brought together as a finished tapestry.
