Line Dufour – TheWorld in Pieces

The World in Pieces addresses how migrations and displacement of people around the world due to political conflicts and environmental calamity affects our planet

and its impacts on our respective countries. Each of the six tapestries of the World in Pieces is part of a complete map of the world. The tapestries are not intended to be displayed as fitting together (perfectly) but are positioned randomly on a given wall surface to express the hope that the world and humanity can be repaired and re-assembled.

Over the last ten years, Line’s tapestries have addressed social, political and environmental issues. While honouring the traditions of tapestry weaving, it’s imperative for her to push beyond the limits these customs impose by exploring and experimenting with methods which break with tradition, presenting iterations that are contemporary and relevant.

Her tapestries have been part of numerous exhibitions in Canada, USA and internationally, including at the National University of Ireland, the Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University, Beijing, and the American Textile Museum in Lowell Massachusetts. She has received awards, grants and scholarships and her work can be found in many collections, including several commissions.
