I believe everyone has an innate relationship with the non-human world but overtime that connection has been eroded. My work aims to uncover some of those temporal and spatial layers of connectivity through the concept of palimpsest. I work with a definition of palimpsest that refers to the traces of cultural and physical activity that are laid down over time and I use that exploration to reflect both a sense of place within the Galloway landscape and wider environmental and social disconnection. I work with a range of materials, often locally found, exploring how these various media can be contrasted and combined. My printmaking approach is very fluid and playful, and I love the spontaneity of colour and patterns that emerge. For my 3D work I use my Castlemilk Moorit and Shetland sheep fleeces to create felted vessels and use the same approach to explore form and texture.
