Frances Crowe – Red Alert 1 and 2

Frances’ art practice seeks to name and reframe important social and cultural issues of our times which have resulted in much suffering and the displacement of the poorest peoples, particularly, women and children. These are her deepest concerns impacting on all our futures. Her chosen medium is tapestry, drawing in thread. As all our lives hang on a thread, her practice embodies age-old gestures of loom and shuttle, warp and weft. For Frances, weaving is both ancient gesture and thought paradigm. In her day-to-day art practice, weaving provides her with a visual language, a methodology and a conceptual framework to investigate and attempt to map and make some sense of the grave challenges of our times.

Climate change refers to long term changes in the earths weather patterns or average temperature. Interactions between the atmosphere, oceans, ice sheets, land masses and vegetation create the climate system. Since the mid nineteenth century, a rise has occurred in the average global temperature, the rate of change in recent times cannot be explained by natural causes alone.

Impacts from wind/rain/snow etc vary depending on location, recent weather conditions, the state of the ground, the time of year as well as the duration of the event. Extreme weather can significantly affect and impact on society or on the economy.

Climate change will cause an increase in extreme winter storms combining strong winds and heavy rainfall over the UK and Ireland.
