Inspiration for my work stems from the original woven fabrics which were produced at Farfield Mill. For this exhibition, I retell their story using contemporary Herdwick cloth which is still woven in the surrounding area. With its beautiful vibrant colours and soft texture, it retains the essential qualities of the original fabrics.
I have created a simple repeat pattern using circles and squares, reflecting the mill’s original designs. Techniques include reverse appliqué, machine embroidery and hand couching. As a homage to the past, all the materials I have used are wool.
