Brave Lucy
Rhoda BENNETT
Luxembourg
This work shows Lucy Pevensie setting out at the crack of dawn on an adventure in Narnia. The scene borrows from the imagery in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis, where Lucy arrives in a snowy landscape lit by a single streetlight. The idea is to capture part of what it means to be brave. The separation between the foreground and the background is connected with the means of a bridge. This represents the idea of before and after, of how life’s journeys changes. The light of the dawn suggests the need to embrace the hope and opportunity that comes with each new day.
Lucy is running which contrasts against the static streetlight in order to indicate the importance of moving forward.
‘If you were any braver you would be a lioness.’ Aslan to Lucy in Prince Caspian by CS Lewis.
