Blanket Collection – Shelley Rhodes

Historically, wool samples were presented in books or catalogues which were a valuable source of information. Rather than traditional dyed or woven samples, these blanket samples have been altered and manipulated using contemporary materials and techniques. Each transformation can be a starting point for further development of large-scale work.
The material explorations are presented as a new collection with each carefully selected, ordered and assembled into the chosen space. The small multiple units create a new modern assemblage that elevates the plain white wool blanket. It makes the familiar, unfamiliar as it draws the viewer in for closer inspection.
The monochrome palette references and celebrates sheep as the source of the wool.
