Anna Wetherell – The Howgill Tapestry
Farfield Mill, a former woollen mill just outside Sedbergh, is set amongst the Howgill Fells.
This tapestry was woven at the Mill, using wool from local sheep, sourced from a small local business, Laura’s Loom. It translates a watercolour painting of the Fells, painted by a fellow artist at the Mill specifically to act as the design for the tapestry.
Through such collaboration we have continued the textile traditions of the Mill into the modern day, reflecting its contemporary use as a space for artists, demonstrating traditional weaving skills, and celebrating the Mill’s heritage and its surrounding environment.
