I am fascinated by symbolism and metaphor and manifest surrealist imagery to express the inner world of emotion and experience that somehow communicates with our somatic, non-verbal being. I have always felt drawn to digital imagery, print and mixed media. A lens captures movement in poetic, nuanced ways. I explore digital, manual and hybrid photography. I am exploring what it means to be human, how we each make sense and meaning from the circumstances of our lives. Aiming to reach a deeper understanding of how our experiences shape us.
I’m working on a set called “Who Are You In The Silence Between Your Thoughts?” exploring the felt sense of lived experience and the personal nuance of emotion. Replicating an emotion or experience and express it symbolically. I invite the onlooker to connect with something within themselves, like a reflection. Something that can be recognised and felt very personally, discovering their own truths. I find each of our unique patterns of sense making like a fingerprint of our personal life, unseen by the naked eye but found in stories.
Beyond being an artist I am a psychotherapist and journalist inspired to explore ‘meaning making’ and the stories we tell ourselves and others. Through conversation and the production of artwork I explore sense of ‘self’ and aim to connect an audience to that which is also beyond ‘self’.
