Murmuration
16 October 2024 – 21 December 2024
A flock of birds, twisting, turning and swirling together, forming shape-shifting patterns in the sky, usually at dusk before the birds roost for the night. Following on from the Waterline project, a group of 12 tapestry weavers from the UK, Netherlands, USA and Canada have collaborated on a new innovative installation, Murmuration Collaboration.
The project has taken two years from conception to the first exhibition. The use of core colours, along with close collaboration between neighbours and across the group as a whole, has allowed each artist to create their own design while remaining true to the overall concept. It works as a single statement – a shaped woven whole – and as a series of individually designed and woven tapestries.
The tapestry weavers are:
Katrine West, UK
Veronique van Zeeland, Netherlands
Yonat Michaelov, USA
Kennita Tully, USA
Anita Bruce, UK
Kati Paakki, UK/Finland
Christine Rivers, Canada
Irene Evison, UK
Jenny Heard, US
Anna Wetherell, UK
Minna Rothman, USA
Joan Baxter, UK
“Working with other tapestry artists has been an ideal opportunity to expand and explore the movement of murmuration more than would have been possible in a single tapestry.” Kati
