Sand Patterns – Jane Brunning
I walk on West Beach near where I live. I love ow the sea and the sand is different everyday. The beach has an area of sand dunes, pebbles and at low tide a long expanse of sand. I love the patterns created on the sand by the tide and I am always photographing and sketching them. I was inspired by one of these designs to create this tapestry, the size is 40x40cm and I have used a black mohair warp at 4 epc. The background is woven with nettle and tussah silk. The white shapes, which create the patterns are woven with linen, silk, cotton fabric, paper yarn and lurex. To create movement within the tapestry shapes and lines are wrapped. In some areas the warp is left exposed to create a sense of depth.
