Olga Owczarek – Isolation
Olga is a tapestry weaver based in Cornwall, England. She inherited a family passion for weaving and learned to weave in her early years. Her childhood
was spent dancing back and forth between Poland and the American Midwest, surrounded by strong weaving traditions in both landscapes. Olga’s love for this meditative art form was rekindled when she traded in city life for the sea.
Her inspiration comes from natural landscapes, history and folklore. She is fascinated by the stories and meanings held by physical places, and the sea in all of its forms. Olga lives and weaves in Cornwall, the rugged southwestern coast of England, which the Romans believed to be the end of the world. The enduring allure of these coastal shores influence her work.
“Isolation” is a meditation on migration and longing for the feeling of home. It is a visual representation of the threads of memory and feeling that connect us, stretched thin to knit together families separated on opposite ends of the world.
