Miss Monique and her Little Helpers – Ulrikka Mokdad Denmark
Many of Ulrikka’s artworks deal with power structures in society and private life. Here the hands often play a prominent role. There is mostly a good dose of cynicism in the view of the relationship between man and woman expressed in her tapestries. In some of her recent works, the beauty ideals of women are investigated, such as the women’s magazines’ focus on the perfect look and the use of Botox injections to look younger. These are humorous comments on modern women’s limited and limiting self-understanding, in which they – in order to live up to some rather unrealistic demands for external perfection – torment themselves.
