Magenta Kang – Nostalgia
A textile, tapestry and installation artist resident in Cambridgeshire UK, Magenta has a background in traditional Korean hand-stitched techniques, painting and drawing. Her practice encompasses autobiographical elements, exploring self perceived identity “Magenta”.
Her art is informed by the natural world and found things, especially wood, often wrapped or augmented with patchwork or incorporated into tapestry, reflecting her passion for nature and humanity.
Magenta is a colour that she has always had an affinity for, and it provided her an anchor while travelling between two cultures. For Magenta, weaving is a way of wrapping pre-existing organic forms, such as wood, and finding her roots in the natural environment.
She has lived and worked in diverse places from the small fishing villages of her childhood in Korea, through busy cities in Asia and London, to Chichester on the south coast and finally the tranquillity of the East Anglian fens.
