Liz Tracey
I trained as a teacher in Liverpool and chose art as one of my main subjects. I went into primary education and was fortunate to live for a few years in a variety of countries including Germany, Gibraltar and Brunei. I came back to the North West in 2004 and now live near Kirkby Stephen. I have been selected for exhibitions at the Upfront, Milnthorpe and shown with local art clubs.
My studio is a static caravan in Crosby Garrett overlooking the North Pennines. The constantly changing skies, weather fronts coming in, wide vistas, all these form a basis for a lot of my work which can be described at times as semi abstract and at others more realistic. I work in situ from sketches and develop these on canvas using acrylic paint and inks. Many of my paintings have a lot of layers which I scratch through to get a particular effect. I enjoy experimenting using inks and paints to initiate, progress and develop new ideas to try to capture the ancient landscape.
