Gill Lightfoot – Salts Mill
Salts Mill was founded in 1853 by Titus Salt, philanthropic social reformer who pioneered the use of alpaca and cotton to produce a light, lustrous cloth.
Unlike other mills that fell into disrepair, the site is beautifully maintained and is now a vibrant cultural space that I love to explore. This transformation has been supported by local Bradford born artist David Hockney.
I have explored Hockney’s paintings, and their colours and patterns are reflected here through the large mill windows.
I have chosen to display my piece on a loom bobbin to honour the mill’s working life.
