Can you See Me? – Beth Smith UK
This piece has a number of panels but should be perceived as one work. It is made from, linen, cotton, wool and paper. The paper is a drawing and Beth intends to take this idea further by exploring the idea of mixing drawing and tapestry.
The subject of this piece is mainly about Beth’s life in Wales and Scotland and how she comes to terms with blending those two places. She uses images and objects which she sees around her, to create compositions.
Today, Beth worries about these countries separating and that she is losing her roots and tries to tell that story within the work. It is not a political statement it’s more of a personal response of longing and nostalgia. Her work is about belonging and loyalty.
