A Short Bright Flight – Lyssa Robinson
Colour study of the life stages of a Swallowtail butterfly: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis and adult
Depiction of the four stages in the life of a Swallowtail Butterfly, distilled into the colour proportions of each life form – lemon yellow deepening red-brown egg; grey-green caterpillar with black and orange markings; silver-grey and yellow-green chrysalis and finally a stunning black and gold butterfly with blue and red wing patches. A stitched portrait of the adult sits in the centre of a calendar with coloured dots to show when each stage is generally active – yellow for the egg (May/June), orange for the caterpillar (June/July), grey for the chrysalis (July – April) and red for the butterfly (April/May).
