A Fox was there … Sami Land
Irina MALYUKOVA
Finland
This work is inspired by an ancient Finnish fable, the beauty of the vast North as well as my admiration for the Sami, the only recognised Indigenous people in the EU. According to the fable, a fox started fires by running on snow. Its tail fiercely brushed up snow and sparks flew up into the sky, creating the northern lights that still cause awe and wonder to this day. The Sami wove those beautiful colours into their identity, costumes, and traditions.
