The Graduation Show of the ArtyBird Carnforth Fellowship group who are intertwined through strong, supportive bonds of friendship and shared creativity. The exhibition reflects individuality within the cohesive group.
Jen’s inspiration comes very much from the landscape around her. Not only from the landscape, but from her memories of being in those places. The feelings she associates with her presence there and her sense of self, which these places give to her.
Sue Turnbull is a tapestry weaver. Her inspiration has been Iceland. She has been lucky enough to visit several times. It’s an interesting and fascinating place, being rich in geology, history, wildlife, especially birds and the sagas.
The inspiration for Rachel’s work is the Scottish Islands, and in particular the islands of Mull and Iona. She has visited the islands many times, and they have become a place of sanctuary for her. The islands are full of rich history and the most stunning scenery, and that really resonates with Rachel personally and also in her artistic work.
Pat’s inspiration is the place where she lives, Thornby on the west coast, north of Liverpool. She has lived there for 40 years, but visited it her whole life. It has always been a magical place for her. With its miles of pinewood, sun dunes, and beach. It takes the full force of the weather and is eroding rapidly. The pine trees are distorted shapes struggling to survive. These distorted trees appear in most of her pieces.
Established in 2007, ArtyBird Carnforth is a recognised Centre for Excellence in the delivery of Creative Textile & Art education.
