Come and enjoy a day of weaving on a 4-shaft table loom. Whether you’re a beginner or already a weaver this will be a lovely opportunity to experiment with colour and texture. I’ll even take the mystery out of pattern reading.

Tassel Making with Sara Dennis

Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 March

£125 including materials kit worth £25

Over two days we will create beautiful wooden topped tassels, in the passementier tradition.

On day one we will construct a piece using hand turned wooden tops and wool pompoms. Each tassel is made up of cords, skirts and pompoms brought together to create a one-off keepsake, often used as key keepers, curtain tie backs or decoration.

On day two we move on to covering the wooden mould and experimenting with skirts – using hand painted wool made at Farfield Mill. Two days, two tassels.

All abilities are welcome. If you have any favourite threads or decorations, please bring them along.

The 2-day course will take you through the whole process of winding a warp and dressing a loom to weaving your cloth, Jan will provide you with all the tips, tricks and techniques to ease your path into weaving.

Flowers on Tissue Paper with Ruth Clayton

Silver Tup Embroidery with Sara Dennis

Create a beautifully embroidered heat cushion with Royal School of Needlework trained, Sara Dennis.

At the end of the session you will be familiar with he application and limitations of working with metallic thread, whilst creating a stylish cherrystone heat pad.

All levels of stitchers are welcome and the kit comes with everything you need to finish a cherry stone hottie.

The course will cover the basics of goldwork technique, working with Japanese thread, pearl purl, chipping and kid. It will be taught hands on, demonstration and instruction.

By the end of the workshop you will understand the application and limitations of working with metallic thread and be ready to go on to more complex designs.

Boats Acrylic workshop with Stuart Gray

Introduction Needle Case with Sara Dennis

For those who are new to stitching, or if you feel a bit rusty, come and enjoy a day getting to grips with needle and thread. We will create a beautiful, colourful needle case using various surface stitches – including various back stitches, chain stitch, stem stich and others. The kit contains everything you need to complete the project, including full instructions so no pressure to finish on the day. Although instructive, the class is fun and relaxing.

Silk Paper Making with Wendy Ann Stanger

Learn the basics of silk fusion paper making, the range of fibres used, how to layer fibres to create images and what some of the possibilities of silk fusion paper are. An A4 piece of wet fusion paper will be created to take home and make into your own piece of artwork or make your own lampshade.

Stumpwork Flower with Sara Dennis

Also known as raised work or embossed work, stumpwork was only coined when the Victorians renewed its popularity. Not to be confused with appliqué, the various elements of stumpwork are often worked off the frame in the form of slips and then attached to create the final three-dimensional piece.

Come and enjoy a day creating a beautiful stumpwork primrose. We will work the petals and leaves before making up into a single flower presented in a glass jar.

How to Book There are 2 ways in which to book a place on our Workshops:-

1. To book by phone call 015396 21958 and press 0 for reception.  We will complete a booking form for you and take payment by debit or credit card. You can also send us a cheque but your booking isn't confirmed until we receive full payment. 

2. To book by post download the booking form and return it to us with full payment by cheque or phone and pay by credit or debit card.             

KEY INFORMATION

Duration  Workshops run 10.00am to 4.00pm - and you can gain access to set up from 9.45am.

Location  Workshops are held in our workshop room on Level 1 next to The Tea Room.

Lunch  You can buy a delicious lunch made on the premises  in The Tea Room (with viewing window into the Weaving Room). Alternatively, you can bring a packed lunch to eat in the workshop room (we would ask you not to eat your packed lunch in The Tea Room, please).

Drinks  Tea and tea making facilities will be available for you to make throughout the day in the workshop room.
