Christine Wallace: Hand-stitched Leatherwork

Originally a weaver of narrow goods and a tassel maker, I changed direction to leather work and bookbinding in 2012.  The use of traditional methods, tools and materials has always played a strong part for me in any design work and making. I love the connection to past generations, the research and learning involved and to feel that I am following in many footsteps.

Leather, this wonderful flexible material, allows me to use shape, texture, and colour to create classic and modern pieces, whether bags, belts, boxes or books, I use exclusively my own designs inspired by the everything around me, by practical research and by reading about past methods and peoples. Where possible I use British leathers and suppliers.

I welcome commissions: working closely with a client is a delightful process and to see a piece of my work going to a happy home gives me great satisfaction.
