The A684 closure at Garsdale Street
The Diversion can be made like this:
We are offering slightly alternative routes to the official diversion which would be used by local people who know the roads well.
Version 1. Northern Route.
From A684 at the Moorcock Inn turn right onto the B6259 to Kirkby Stephen then follow this road to Pendragon Castle (actual ruined castle on left) turn down the little lane at the castle to the left and follow this narrow lane over the moor to the T-junction with the A683 turn left and follow this road into Sedbergh, turn left onto the A684 Gardale Road signposted to Hawes, Farfield Mill is about a mile on the left. (nb the official diversion takes you into Kirkby Stephen at Nateby putting another 10 miles on to this diversion, the Pendragon Castle lane is easily passable as long as you donít have a long wheelbase vehicle.)
Version 2. Southern Route.
From the A684 turn left onto the U5509, called the Coal Road this rather tricky and steep lane was the route for coals moving from station to station to supply trains on the Settle to Carlisle line which runs alongside. Follow the Coal Road past Garsdale Station and go carefully down the steep hill to the T-junction with the C5101 road turning right signposted to Dent. Follow this road for about 9 miles into Sedbergh. At the war memorial in Sedbergh turn right and turn right again at the A684 signposted to Hawes which will also have a road closed sign. Farfield Mill is just 1 mile along this road on the left.
