Have you ever wanted to paint using watercolours? Come and join Ruth as she guides you through a step by step process to paint your own masterpiece. All abilities are welcome whether you want to develop your artistic abilities or find your inner artist! Ruth will frame your artwork ready for you to take home to impress your friends and family.

Mini Textile Banners with Helen Walsh

Sunday 29th Oct £50 plus £5 for materials on the day

Come and join artist Helen Walsh for a day of fabrics and stitching. Learn how Helen builds her banner pieces using fabrics, threads, feathers (optional!) and stitch and have a go at creating your own textile banner.

No experience necessary, Helen will help guide you through the creative process, adapting to your own level of experience. All materials will be provided (for a small charge) but if you would like to bring your own items please refer to the list below.

Materials and Equipment


  • A selection of fabrics to create your banner, you can use any fabric you like!
  • Basic sewing kit (pins, needles, scissors, thimble)
  • Embroidery hoop (optional)
  • Embroidery threads in colours of your choice and that work with your fabrics (perle, stranded cotton, silks and wools are all suitable)
  • Embellishments; beads, buttons, feathers and so on
  • Stitch dictionary

Ruth Clayton - Felting character workshop

Join one of our resident artists, Ruth Clayton for the day on one of her 'needle-felting workshops.
Come along and make a seasonal cake topper in time for Christmas.
£50 for the day (booked through the Mill) plus £5 paid to Ruth on the day for materials. Book now to avoid disappointment

Ali Sharman - Weave a Cafetiere Cosy for Christmas

Sunday 19 November 2017- £50 plus £5 for materials

Resident artist Ali Sharman will lead this workshop. Come along to the Mill and weave a Cafetiere cosy, and if you have time somemug mats to go with it. The looms will be set up and ready to go.

No experience required.


Duration  Workshops run 10.30am to 4.30pm - and you can usually gain access to set up from 10.15am.

Location  Workshops are held in our dedicated Education Room on Level 2, or in the Bainside Studio on Level 4.

Lunch  You can buy a delicious lunch made on the premises using local produce in Weavers Café (with viewing window into the Weaving Room). Alternatively, you can bring a packed lunch to eat in the workshop room (we would ask you not to eat your packed lunch in the Café, please).

Drinks  Fresh coffee and tea is available for you to make throughout the day in the kitchen adjacent to your workshop space.
