The Mill has 15 studios in various sizes, available for rent by artists, designer-makers and related agencies.
All studios have a standard electricity supply with twin wall sockets; some are fitted with a 3-phase supply. Water is available on each level in the kitchen for use by resident artists and staff. A few studios have their own water supply; water may be available within other studios subject to installation costs (if appropriate).
Studios become available from time to time; if you are interested in further details, please contact Lesley, the Centre Manager, on 015396 21958 ext 2
We have a large room on Level 2, which is used for a range of learning experiences - from adult and schools workshops, to local groups meeting regularly.
- “Farfield Mill is both an excellent history resource and a catalyst for creative work and their education room is a wonderful addition to its resources. All our children have visited recently and gained both knowledge and skills through working with professional artists.” Phillipa Summers, Head Teacher, Dent Church of England Primary School
- “We had a fantastic afternoon – inspiring and thoroughly enjoyable! We’ll definitely be back to continue our creative journey.” Chris Brown, Creative and Performing Arts at Sedbergh Junior School
This space is also used as a base for schools visits:
- “Thank you so much for organising such a lovely afternoon with my class. They all really enjoyed it, especially the weaving and using the looms and spinning wheels. I am only sorry that we didn’t get enough time to explore the rest of the mill. I will plan for a longer session next time…” Emily Hutchinson, St Mary’s CE Primary School, Kirkby Lonsdale
We aim to run at least one two-day workshop every month (for full details of workshops currently on offer, click here).
This room is also available for private hire.
Private Room Hire
Our Education Room on Level 3 is available for hire - for talks, workshops, business meetings, training sessions, interviewing, etc - or for art and craft groups wishing to meet regularly.
The room is light and airy, with three deep windows overlooking the River Clough and the fells beyond. There is also a small annex room alongside, separated by double doors, which when open allows for larger groups or for refreshements. There is a fully accessible toilet next door, and lift access to this and all other Levels.
Those taking part in any event or meeting in the Education Room can also enjoy the exhibitions on Level 2, plus a spot of shopping in the Retail Galleries on Levels 3 and 4.
The room will accommodate up to 25 people seated, or 35 standing. Tea, coffee, snacks and meals can be provided at an extra charge from Weavers Café. Sample menus and prices are available on request, please click here.
Hire rates start at £70 per day and include the use of an overhead projector, flip chart, plus table and chair layout of you choice. Please contact Lesley for more details.
Depending on timing and the nature of the exhibition on display, our two formal galleries can also be hired for meetings or private events. Those attending such events will enjoy the unique surroundings experienced in one of Farfield Mill's exhibition spaces.
Each room will accommodate up to 30 people seated, or 50 standing - depending on the number of plinths and tables being used for 3D work in the exhibition. Hire rates start at £75 per day and include the use of an overhead projector, flip chart, plus table and chair layout of you choice. Please contact Lesley for more details.
