Farfield Mill

Farfield Resident Artists

Tomoko Alderson (textiles)

Tomoko worked as a designer in Wacoal corporation HQ, the largest lingerie company in Japan, and now works as a freelance designer based in the UK. "I design and produce my own fashion brand - Mrs. Alderson England - and offer design consulting for individuals and companies."

Angela Bradley (knitwear)

Scarves, jumpers, hats and bags in a riot of vibrant colours. "I love to experiment with different colours and fibres – and take inspiration from the ever-changing textures of the local area."

Rebecca Callis (hand-thrown porcelain)

Rebecca was born in Kendal and is the Mill’s resident Studio Potter. "I’m interested in private ritual, so in choosing to make functional objects, I hope to give pleasure to the user and to pass on the unique, almost meditative moment in which it was created."

Paul Girling (green-wood chairs and benches)

Paul is one of the very few green wood chair-makers in the country and possibly the only one in the north of England. Paul also runs workshops from his studio – for more information, visit him in his studio. "I design and produce chairs in the traditional manner, without using powered tools; you’ll always find me in the studio surrounded by wood of all shapes and sizes – and wood shavings!"

Rachel Greenbank (painting and drawing)

Rachel's paintings are passionate, sensual, emotive and personal reflections of love and the feminine form in the guise of beautiful figures and dramatic portraits. She paints in acrylic and mixed media on canvas and has two distinctive styles; a simple painting, or drawing with charcoal on a painted background.

Cheryl Hitchcock (painting)

Cheryl creates contemporary landscape paintings in acrylic, watercolour and pastel. “I am drawn to edges and patterns in the landscape – a building or tree against a skyline or a path snaking its way through a field.”

Annie Hudson (painting and drawing)

Annie's subject is the drama of continual change in the landscape. "Whether I’m using oil, acrylic, charcoal or graphite, drawing is my most essential visual language; ideas and methods evolve in the studio, where the freedom of spontaneity and memory also comes into play."

Elizabeth Peebles Brown (woven textiles)

Elizabeth is the newest recruit to our artists community at Farfield Mill.

Helene Shovlar (silver jewellery)

Helene designs and makes distinctive, contemporary jewellery using traditional tools and techniques. "Inspiration comes from a combination of my interest in colours and textures present in nature and local landscape, as well as historical artefacts and middle eastern textiles."

Peter Stockdale (photographic images)

Peter makes stunning images taking his inspiration from the surrounding landscape.

Mary Taylor (embroidered textiles)

Mary’s embroidered textiles are inspired by the natural environment – a cliff face, seascape or entire mountainside – even a patch of rust. "I carry my camera with me everywhere and I’m always on the look-out for inspiration in this most beautiful part of England."

Mo Wallis (stained and fused glass)

Mo runs workshops from her studio in the Mill – for more information and dates, pick up her flyer from Reception.
